IZOD/Macy's Danica Patrick and Helio Castrovenes Appearance w/special guest Mark Wahlberg

Date: Wednesday, April 14th 2010

Time: 6pm - 7pm

Macy's South Coast Plaza, Costa Mesa CA

Been waiting to meet Danica Patrick for quite some time. Since she had no signing appearances earlier in the year for her debut in NASCAR, this was my chance. Received a tweet on twitter that she was going to make an appearance sometime during the day with the time TBD. Around 3pm I received the tweet that she was to be in Costa Mesa @ the South Coast Plaza Mall @ 6pm. Since I was working about 15 mins away, I decided this was my chance. This was a public event. Only thing is, if you wanted a guarantee, a purchase of $40.00 of IZOD product was to be made at the venue (Macy's). Upon purchasing you would receive a wrist band to guarantee to meet Danica Patrick and Helio Castroneves (both race car drivers). Also, there was a guest appearance by Mark Wahlberg who was endorsing a line of water but not signing. Finding a place holder in line, I walked around and first ran into security escorting Helio Castroneves to a private party at the mall offices. I walked around Macy's a little more and in from the mall entrance to Macy's Mark Wahlberg was being escorted by security into the store. I hit him up to take a quick picture and it was only me around. He said ,"Sure that's fine" and snapped a picture. Keep in mind I had my iPhone and the images kept getting blurred so we had to take a few more shots. I told him I was a huge Pacquiao fan as well and he said, "Yeah, hopefully we can see a Pacquiao/Mayweather fight, only if Mayweather can get past Mosley" and he walked away as I kindly thanked him for the photo opportunity. Since the pictures didn't turn out so well, I went ahead and approached him for another picture. (see left) As, I was walking away from taking the last picture with Mark Wahlberg, security was escorting Danica Patrick to the same party. So, while she passed I gave a quick, "Hey Danica", and she said, "Hi" and walked off. During the signing, people were trying to take pictures with her. For those that go to signings and events, usually know, when there is a table, you gotta lean in for a picture. Someone in Danica's team was complaining about how people shouldn't be going next to her to take pictures. Danica said "NO it's easier this way so it's fine". So, I got right up next to her and was able to take a great picture (see above) Kinda proves how good she is to her fans. I was unable to get a picture with Helio Castroneves as my goal was completed for the day.
